Corvallis City Club Starting Up
If you listen to some of the Portland or Eugene radio stations, you may have heard a City Club meeting broadcast on the air. The City Club concept has been around over 100 years. It is a place for good information and enlightened conversation on public issue. It is a place where complex issues can be discussed and explored without a specific agenda. Perhaps it is a way to build community through open inquiry. A group of people have been meeting and discussing the City Club process. The current expectation is to have a lunch meeting held on the forth Monday of the month.
A survey was sent out to several hundred people who participated in the Economic Vitality Partnership asking for feedback on structure, timing and issues. As a result of that survey, some of the key issues identified were:
• Our Future Tax Structure / Funding Schools
• What do YOU mean by livability?
• “Sustainable Development”
• An Overview of State Issues by Bill Lunch
After consulting with Bill Lunch, he is available to present on April 23rd. We will be finalizing the process of the Corvallis City Club process in the next week. If you are interested in being part of the Corvallis City Club process, you are welcome to join the email list. http://groups.google.com/group/corvallis-city-club
Details about the first City Club meeting will be sent out by email on that list. Feel free to contact John Sechrest at the Chamber Coalition to talk more about the Corvallis City Club concept.
